Eight Degrees Brewing - Knockmealdown Irish Stout - can

Knockmealdown – Irish Stout

Like tackling the Knockmealdowns in a blizzard, this beer is not for wimps. A robust malt-driven ale, this is our evolution of a traditional Irish stout.

It has complex dark malt characteristics with a distinctive espresso and chocolate aroma, all balanced with a subtle hop bitterness. Makes a beef stew taste that bit beefier, contrasts beautifully with blue cheese or go sweet and enjoy with an intense chocolate cake.

Description

Dark chocolate and espresso aroma

Style: Dry Irish stout
Malt: Irish pale ale malt, chocolate malt, wheat malt, roast barley and Crisp 400
Hops: Nugget
Strength: 6% ABV
Bitterness: 24 IBUs

Tasting notes:
Colour/appearance: near black in the glass with a tan head.
Aroma: this beer is all about the malt and the nose doesn’t disappoint: lots of rich roasted espresso and sweet molasses.
Flavour: full flavours of roasted coffee and chocolate dominate, with some caramel and liquorice notes. Smooth and rich with a solid bitter backbone.
Aftertaste: dark roast coffee bitterness and a dry finish.

Food pairings:
This is the beer for your traditional beef and stout stew. For something completely different, hang on to the stout for the end of the meal; bold chocolate and espresso flavours make it good accompaniment to a dense, dark chocolate cake or contrast the sweetness of the stout with the saltiness of our local Cashel Blue cheese.

Well worth trying in a chocolate cake or some double chocolate stout brownies.
