Déjà Vu Hopfenweisse

Déjà Vu Hopfenweisse from Eight Degrees Brewing

The Antipodean founders of Eight Degrees have bought back the brewery and we’re all on board for a Naturally Adventurous future!

As 2024 marks a new chapter for EDB, to celebrate we’ve created a beer that epitomises our love for taking traditional beer styles and adding a modern twist.

Our Déjà Vu Hopfenweisse is brewed as a classic German wheat beer, with delicious fruit and spice, banana and clove aromas. We dry-hopped it with one of our favourite hops, Mandarina Bavaria, adding a layer of sweet tropical citrus notes to this delightfully fresh start.

Style: Hopfenweisse
Malt: Irish malted barley, wheat.
Hops: Amarillo, dry hopped with Mandarina Bavaria.
ABV: 7.5%

Tasting notes
Colour/appearance: golden in the glass with a very firm head. Good lacing.
Aroma: spices – clove and black pepper – up front, with a sweet Juicy Fruit aroma (all banana, citrus, pineapple) and a hint of bitter orange.
Flavour: initially sweet but swiftly bitter with a Seville orange peel flavour. This is a substantial beer, a real mouth filler with a decent heft to the body. Sweet-bitter smooth.
Aftertaste: lingering marmalady flavours and sweet spices to tingle on your tongue.

Food pairings
The spice and citrus flavours in our Déjà Vu Hopfenweisse will play well with anything roasted so something like charred octopus with chilli and lime is an ideal pairing. Starting sweet and finishing bitter, this beer will cut through the intense umami richness of a smoked ham hock – shred that meat and put it into a sandwich with grilled gruyère, béchamel, tomato relish and pickles, Oxmantown-style, and you’ve the lunch of your dreams. Bring on a bowl of fiery Pad Kee Mao (Thai Drunken Noodles) for a veggie option and see how well this beer handles chilli heat. Looking to pair it with dessert? Try a crisp apple strudel for a classic German finishing flourish.

Availability: 440ml cans, limited draught.
Launch Date: March 2024.
