This week, it’s all about the Summer Solstice Craft Beer Festival! We’re especially happy because we’re bringing the beer festival home and it’s taking place in one of our favourite pubs, The Bodhrán in Mitchelstown. The brewers have been in training all week and this year we’re hoping that they remember to get a taxi before they’ve all gone home to bed as a 3am call two years in a row “looking for a lift” isn’t the way we want to roll. If you’re not in or around Mitchelstown this weekend (and if not, why not?) here’s where we know some of our other beers are currently pouring: ‪#‎GrandStretchIPA‬‪#‎OxymoronKiwiWit‬. ‪#‎TheFullIrishIPA‬ ‪#‎HowlingGaleAle‬‪#‎KnockmealdownStout‬ ‪#‎HurricaneIPA‬ ‪#‎PolarVortexIP‬‪A #‎NelsonSauvinSaison‬ Grand Stretch at Dock No 1 The Porterhouse Temple Bar have Oxymoron, The Full Irish and Grand Stretch The Full Irish is at Harry Byrnes Spirit Store has Howling Gale and Grand Stretch with Knockmealdown waiting in the wings. Business advice from Australia, relationship advice from Morocco (looks like both the Kiwi and Aussie looked to Ireland for good hearts and good heads!) and lots of talk about arseholes. May 2015: Limited edition – Grand Stretch IPA

We Irish get very excited by a grand stretch in the evening. With that in mind, Eight Degrees have developed one for your enjoyment. This summer seasonal beer has all the flavour and delicious hop aroma of an IPA but is sessionable enough to be enjoyed while the evening stretches grandly. How can you go wrong with a premier hop line up like Cascade, Amarillo and the very sexy Vic Secret imparting orange, pineapple and pine aromas? With Ireland’s location well north of the 50th parallel, our summers might not be terribly hot – but we can still enjoy a Grand Stretch. Here’s to a hoppy beer for a long, long summer. Short description: session IPA – fruit and pine flavours – refreshing bitterness Style: IPA Hops: Cascade, Amarillo, Vic Secret Strength: 4.2% ABV Bitterness: 43 IBUs Tasting notes Colour/appearance: pours a light golden colour. Aroma: pine resin, pineapple and pomelo. Flavour: a refreshing bite of bitterness, more mouthfeel and body than you’d expect for something with this low ABV. Aftertaste: pine and caramelized pineapple at the finish. Food pairings: this is a summertime lawnmower beer, perfect with something spicy like piri piri chicken. The bitterness will enhance the flavour of any fish dish, working especially well with seared tuna steaks. Launch Date: May 2015. Serving temperature: 8 degrees Celsius Availability: Bottles and draught (30L and 50L kegs) For more information: https://www.eightdegrees.ie

May 2015: Limited edition – Nelson Sauvin Saison

Possibly one of the hardest hops to track down is the hugely popular Nelson Sauvin from New Zealand, and with good reason. Hailing from Nelson himself, Scott had to call in some local favours to secure us a supply of their gorgeous hop flowers. Nelson Sauvin hops have all of the white grape and gooseberry flavours associated with its namesake grape. We have decided to showcase these characteristics by replicating the traditional fruit additions to a subtle Saison malt base with Nelson Sauvin hops for a modern hoppy take on the traditional Saison style. How does it taste? Sweet as, bro! This was first released as the third in our 2015 single hop series, following on from Vic Secret and Simcoe Rye Ale. This special batch was brewed due to popular demand, particularly from our Italian distributors. Short description: New World saison – white grape and gooseberry– Belgian yeast spicing Style: New World saison Malt: Irish pale ale malt, lager malt Hops: Nelson Sauvin Strength: 7.4% ABV Bitterness: 44 IBUs Tasting notes Colour/appearance: pale cloudy yellow. Aroma: characteristic Belgian yeast spice aroma on the nose. Flavour: dry lemon, crushed white grape and green gooseberry – if you know the distinct taste of NZ sauvignon blanc, you’ll find familiar flavours here. Aftertaste: mild spice and lemon with a lovely dryness to the finish. Food pairings: familiar with sauvignon blanc from New Zealand? Anything that you like pairing with that wine will happily go with this beer. Grilled salmon fillets or fried mackerel are an idea match, the lemon and gooseberry flavours in the beer cutting straight through the oils in the fish. If you can get your hands on some fried whitebait, this is the beer that you’ll want to have alongside. Great with goat’s cheese or have with a traditional

Because it’s a Bank Holiday weekend – and we know you love it – we’ve sent kegs of The Full Irish back out into the world to the following spots: Full Irish: The Swagman, Sligo (new) Ma Murphy’s, Bantry (new) Spirit Store, Dundalk Hole in the Wall, Phoenix Park, Dublin The Magpie Inn, Dalkey, Co Dublin Porterhouse Central, Dublin 2 Against the Grain, Dublin 2 The Beerhouse, Dublin 1 P Macs, Dublin 2 Taphouse, Ranelagh, Dublin 6. You’ll find that in good off licences around the country. Looking nearer to home, you’ll find Barefoot Bohemian Pilsner Lager and Howling Gale Ale pouring at the Hibernian Hotel in Mallow. Our Mallow-based boys are very happy – but don’t let them drink it all by themselves! We also have to give Daybreak Clerihan, near Clonmel in Co Tipperary a shout out. They’ve been busy and hope to have their growler/rigger system pouring this weekend: our new ‘growler’ station nears completion. We hope to have it ready for Thursday evening and will enable us to offer… Posted by Daybreak Clerihan on Wednesday, 29 April 2015
