ORIGINAL GRAVITY Kveik Pale Ale with Woolly Mammoth Design

Eight Degrees Brewing - ORIGINAL GRAVITY Kveik Pale Ale - Blue

To celebrate ten years of brewing at Eight Degrees, we wanted to showcase Ireland-based artists in our 2021 Original Gravity series. We ran a competition looking for artworks that reflected our Naturally Adventurous values, expressing our desire to explore and roam again. The winners are featured on this series of five limited beer releases, giving emerging artists a can-sized exhibition space.

#2: ORIGINAL GRAVITY Kveik Pale Ale with Michael Donnelly of Woolly Mammoth Design

Original Gravity
Style: Kveik Pale Ale

SummertimeSunshine. Enjoying beer in the great outdoors. Our Original Gravity Kveik Pale Ale is packed full of Mandarina Bavaria, Cascade and Simcoe hops: lots of fruit and citrus flavours, with a backbone of grapefruit and pine. We’re adding Hornindal Kveik to the mix, a Norwegian yeast that brings some lovely tropical esters to the party. Just what you need on a camping trip in the mountains.

Artist: Michael Donnelly of Woolly Mammoth Design
After spending the last year and a bit inside, the first thing on most people’s minds is to get out and explore. Whether it’s climbing a mountain or swimming in the sea, camping outdoors or walking in the woods, the artwork depicts the beauty that this country has to offer and the amount of activities we can do now that lockdown has eased.

Tasting notes
Colour/appearance: dark gold with a touch of haze and a fluffy white head.
Aroma: tangy grapefruit juice, melon, ripe tangerine, with an underlying twist of white pepper.
Flavour: mulitlayered tropical and stone fruit flavours predominate, with smooth tangerine and pineapple on the palate and a hint of lightly acid underripe nectarines. Some subtle spicy characteristics.
Aftertaste: a smooth mouthfeel that finishes dry, with a piquant yeast bite.

Food pairings
Smooth, snappy and just right for an aperitivo. Puglian taralli – those curled up, crunchy little breadstick bites, especially good when flavoured with fennel – are a great pre-dinner nibble to have alongside this beer. Make up a platter of your favourite crostini (topped with ’nduja and crushed peas) or bruschetta (tomato and aged balsamic for the win) to contrast with the tropical fruit flavours. If you’re heading into the great outdoors with this beer, try it with halloumi burgers, campfire fish tacos or a barbecued steak with piquant salsa verde.

Availability: 440ml cans, limited draught.
Launch Date: August 2021.
