Eight Degrees Brewing - Summer Days Seisiun IPARaise a glass to these long, long summer days when our side of the world tilts towards the sun for a while. What better way to escape the work day drudgery than with our 2016 summer session IPA. Pop the top, tilt your head back, close your eyes and drink in the gentle fresh breeze; these hops will be your guide to summer days drifting away and, uh oh, those summer nights…

Summer Days Seisiún IPA brewed with Amarillo, Mandarina Bavaria, Equinox and Citra hops – have yourself a blast!

Short description: session IPA – soft bitterness – summer sipper

Style: session IPA
Hops: Amarillo, Mandarina Bavaria, Equinox and Citra, dry hopped with Simcoe.
Malt: two row base Irish malt, Cara pils.
Strength: 4.5% ABV
Bitterness: 43 IBUs

Tasting notes
Colour/appearance: pale yellow, white mousssey head.
Aroma: initial floral aroma with a gentle lime bitterness, light malt.
Flavour: smooth, soft hop bitterness on the palate with the flavour of fresh lime zest. The finish is dry, with a delicate sprightly prickle. A refreshing summer Sparkler.
Aftertaste: lingering bitterness, inviting you back for more. The perfect summer sipper.

Food pairings: it’s all about the surf, rather than the turf, with this beer. The rounded hop flavours showcased here will work beautifully with anything smoked – think a light, summertime Goatsbridge smoked trout and barley salad with a lime dressing. Get smokey with some fish yourself and land a side of lemon and herb marinaded salmon on the barbecue, or grill some whole mackerel with ginger, chilli and lime. The gentle bitterness of this beer will complement the citrus, cutting through the oily fish and refreshing you with each sip.

As usual I’m struggling to keep up with Scott and Cam in Eight Degrees Brewing in Mitchelstown.

As well as this fine session IPA they have a new single hop IPA out later this month in bottle (using Galaxy) which is already available in draught format.

Then there was the single hop Citra released in May (sold-out), and the single hop Mandarina Bavaria which came out in June.

Summer Days contains some of the hops just mentioned plus some Amarillo and Equinoox and pours a bright golden colour with fruity citrus and tropical aromas and a light fluffy head.

  1. Any chance of getting the summer days sent to the U.S?

  2. Thanks for the request but unfortunately we can’t ship it over to the US, Jack. Pesky customs!
