Eight Degrees Brewing presents FANAH-FEST: Brewery launch + Beer & Music Festival

UPDATE! The short version: Saturday 25 November 2pm to 5pm – at the brewery for launch, tours, tastings.   5.30pm – Christmas lights on the Square in Mitchelstown. 6pm to late – Live music and beer trail around Mitchelstown. Sunday 26 November 5pm to late – beer trail around Mitchelstown.   *** We love our festivals, we do! And here’s our latest: FANAH-FEST is Eight Degrees Brewing’s Beer and Music Festival for St Fanahan’s Day, celebrating the patron saint of Mitchelstown. Warrior monk St Fahanan, who most people know best as a squat statue outside Mitchelstown garda station, came from Ulster to found a monastery near the town in the seventh century. Traditionally, St Fanahan’s Day was a pattern day, a local holiday. People gathered at his well, which is probably a ritual that goes back far further, to pre-Christian times as the well would have been a place for pagan worship. So, bearing in mind that St Fanahan’s monastery would probably have brewed its own beer, we’ve decided that it’s a good day to celebrate beer in Mitchelstown. Fanah-Fest is happening over the weekend 25-26 November. On Saturday 25 November, we’ll be officially launching our new #MauritiustoMitchelstown brewery, complete with beer tours and tastings from 2pm to 5pm. Then we’re off into Mitchelstown for a live music and beer trail, fun, games and merriment. On Sunday 26 November, there will be a music and beer trail around Mitchelstown from 5pm onwards. The event is free – if you’d like to register in advance, you can do so on or just turn up! Keep an eye on #FANAHFEST on social media (Facebook / Twitter / Instagram) for more details.  Eight Degrees draught available in: An Bodhrán, Mitchelstown The Beehive J’s Bar & Beer Garden Jackie O Briens, Walsh’s Bar Mitchelstown The Ramble Inn Mulberry Tree

Eight Degrees Open Day

A big thank you to everyone for making the inaugural Eight Degrees Open Day (aka #EDBOpenDay) a fantastic success. We ended up hosting over 1,000 people and the day couldn’t have been better as the sun was spitting the stones, the beers were flowing, there was delicious food on offer from local producers and great craic from the band. We really appreciated the chance to showcase our commitment to Mitchelstown and to thank the local community – that’s you! – for their ongoing support. A truly spectacular day. We are also very pleased that on the day we raised €951.97 for St Joseph’s Foundation, with the help of Better Life Cycle, to enable them to continue the great work they do supporting people with disabilities in the North Cork and south Limerick region. Eight Degrees will now match that and contribute an additional €1000 to this great cause so we are delighted to make this contribution. Thank you all for coming! If you’re looking to get your hand on our beer in Mitchelstown, check out the draught taps at An Bodhran, The Beehive, J’s Bar, Jackie O’Brien’s, Walsh’s Bar, The Ramble Inn, The Mulberry Tree, Roche’s Bar and The Firgrove. Bottles are available at Marketplace Restaurant, Centra and SuperValu. It’s the Knockmealdown Irish Stout that you’ll need for those brownies. You can get the recipe here: Double Chocolate Knockmealdown Irish Stout Brownies

The year is kicking off in style (we won’t count January!) as we pack the beers for the Alltech Craft Brews & Food Fair, which kicks off in Dublin’s Convention Centre tomorrow and runs until Sunday. And what beers are we packing? Well, it can’t have escaped your notice that we’ve been busy preparing for the return of – ta da! – The Double Irish Imperial IPA. I had to write tasting notes last week; it was a tough job, I kept having to go back to the fermenter for another *sample*. But I got there in the end. You will let me know if there are any typos, won’t you? Beers for Alltech  The Double Irish Imperial IPA SnowEater Red IPA Vic Secret Black IPA Barefoot Bohemian Pilsner Lager So, your choice of imperial, red, black – or Bohemian! Get your tickets online in advance from their website. Opening hours Friday, February 5th: 5pm – 10pm Saturday, February 6th: 12.30pm – 10pm Sunday, February 7th: 12.30pm – 7pm That’s not all we’re up to this week. Wed and Thurs. — EightDegreesBrewing (@8degreesbrewing) February 2, 2016 Just in case our hard-working Aussie would get bored, this week we also had him – autocorrect notwithstanding – at the SFA National Small Business Awards showcase event at Radisson Blu Royal Hotel Dublin. I quite like the idea of the radiator blue royal hotel. <blockquoteclass=”twitter-tweet” data-lang=”en”> Ready to go at the #sfaawards at the radiator blue royal. — EightDegreesBrewing(@8degreesbrewing) February 1, 2016
