Limited release: Ochtoberfest 2019 Märzen-style lager

Ocht: number eight in Irish. We first brewed this Ochtoberfest Märzen-style beer for a 2012 beer festival to celebrate the lucky and infinite nature of this humble numeral. It was a once off: only beer brewed eight degrees west of Greenwich on the eighth month of the year – and served at precisely eight degrees celsius – could be consumed. We’ve had many requests for its return and we thought it was time to fitting this favourite for our eighth year of brewing. Our Märzen is a full bodied lager with a deep amber colour, rich toasty malt character and plenty of hops. Style: Märzen lager Malt: Two-row malted Irish barley, along with a hearty blend of German malts: CaraAroma, CaraMunich and CaraPils. Hops: Nugget, Lubin, Hallertau Tradition. ABV: 4.5% IBUs: 22 Tasting notes Colour/appearance: amber with a stoic off-white head. Aroma: lots on the nose to enjoy here. It’s a bright and clean combination of grass, caramel, toffee and marmalade. “Sings like copper grass,” said one of our more poetic tasters – or perhaps he just had the bigger glass. Flavour: low bitterness and a medium body, with caramel to the fore, followed by a delicious oaty biscuitness. Aftertaste: a dry cereal finish. Food Pairings The heartier the better: roast ham hock, pork knuckle or half a roast chicken, eaten while wearing lederhosen and / or a dirndl. Launch Date: September 2019. Serving temperature: 8 degrees Celsius Availability: 330ml bottles, limited draught.
